A new (or return to a classic) look in weddings

Regardless of your political persuasion, there is something to admire in the style of Chelsea Clinton's recent wedding to Marc Mezvinsky. Chelsea's wedding was described in the New York Times Sunday Style section as "elegant, family oriented and understated" by Nicky Reinhard, owner of David/Reinhard Events in New York. Not that the over the top, "branded" wedding is about to go away. However, as a contrast to that current trend,Marcy Blum, owner of a wedding planning company in New York, called the ceremony "pristine, minimalist and unembellished." The goal of the understated approach is to ultimately draw the attention to the bride and groom, and not to extravagant surroundings. The article further emphasized, that despite the understated style of the event, there was still incredible beauty, lavish attention to detail, and yes, a budget to support that.Simple accents were featured, a wedding canopy made of branches, leaves and flowers, the silver beads on the gluten-free cakes were similar to the ones on Chelsea's Vera Wang wedding gown and the bride walked down a simple, unadorned white aisle. In the reception tent, there were too many flowers to count - from white lilies arching across the room to over 100 purple-pink roses and hydrangeas displayed on each table. A final notable gesture were the gift baskets given to the guests. They were filled with goodies from the nearby area, such as Saturn peaches, chocolate cookies, a tote bag from their Farmer's market and a bottle of wine from a local vineyard. At Silver Papery, we work with clients to achieve some of these effects through the careful choice and design of invitations, programs, and reception accessories.
